Many people decide to work hard all year, save up and then booking a late minute getaway to the sun. It acts as a great way of breaking up the long drawn out winter period and allows you to recharge your batteries and prepare for the year ahead. Many holidaymakers in the UK choose the Canary Islands as their preferred destination, but which one of the canaries is best? With many to choose from it can be a tough decision; one of the smaller islands such as La Gomera or La Palma may be best if you're wanting a completely relaxing break, although they don't offer much in the way of entertainment. Alternatively, there are four main islands to travel to; they are Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and they are perfect if you are looking for more mainstream facilities and amenities.
Tenerife is particularly sunny in the south of the island and is an excellent base if you enjoy a round of golf. The pretty resort of Los Cristianos is great for couples, whilst the nearby resort of Playa de las Americas is brilliant if you want lively nightlife and a home from home feel. There is a popular water park in the area too, as well as many fabulous hotels to choose from. Gran Canaria is generally quite upmarket and has a cosmopolitan feel to it, with the main resort of Puerto Rico having a lovely marina area and many superb fish restaurants. Although it is a hilly island which can sometimes make accessibility hard, the reward is the chance to enjoy many spectacular cliff top views.
Lanzarote is a friendly favourite with the Brits and offers a mix of top beaches and plenty of resorts suitable for wide-ranging tastes. Mount Timanfaya or 'fire mountain' is a must see excursion for any traveller. Fuerteventura enjoys a generally quieter atmosphere suitable for the whole family, whilst offering immaculate beaches and top water sports. Windsurfing championships regularly take place here too, whilst many of the hotels offer an 'all-inclusive' stay, giving you the opportunity to do as much or as little as you want whilst on holiday. The choice is yours, but whatever island you're leaning towards, whether you're looking at late deals to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote or even Fuerteventura, I think you'll definitely be making a good choice whatever destination you end up choosing to travel to.
